• $10 million from the state, $5 million from the city and $1 million in federal funds.
  • Phase one: interiors, electric heat and hot water, cooling, building envelope, rain gardens.
  • The Boston Housing Authority is also starting a master plan for the whole community.

The money

The state housing office is contributing a $10 million High Leverage Asset Preservation Program grant. The city adds $5 million in capital funding, and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and Senators Markey and Warren secured $1 million in federal Community Project funding. The Boston Public Health Commission is funding open space and community gardens.

What changes first

Apartment interiors will be modernized, heating and hot water converted to electric, and cooling added. Five percent of apartments will become fully accessible. The work also covers the building envelope and green stormwater infrastructure.

Additional federal money supports flood mitigation at affordable housing, including BHA properties; the city and BHA are running stormwater projects at Fairmount, Gallivan and Franklin Field. Residents trained through the city’s PowerCorps program will build and maintain new rain gardens.
